I am an academic translator with ten years’ experience working from Italian and French into English, specialising in the arts and humanities and the social sciences.
"Without translation, I would be limited to the borders of my own country. The translator is my most important ally. He introduces me to the world.”
captures all the nuance
I pride myself on delivering translations that are at once faithful to the source text and elegant pieces of writing in their own right, making it my goal to ensure that the translation captures all the nuance and complexity of the original and does not read like a translation.
Arts & humanities
I hold the following qualifications:
- PhD and MA in French and Italian Literature from the University of Oxford;
- BA in Medieval and Modern Languages (French and Italian) from the University of Oxford;
- Diploma in Translation (Italian-English) from the Chartered Institute of Linguists (areas of specialisation: social sciences and business).
On the strength of my academic background, I particularly relish the challenge of taking on academic translation and proofreading projects, in a wide range of subject areas relating to the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
My professional experience in this field is supported by four years of university-level teaching in the fields of language, literature, and translation.
Areas of specialisation in the academic sphere include:
- French, Italian and Comparative Literature
- Social Sciences
- Art History
Outside of the academic sphere, I also have a wealth of experience in working with texts from a wide range of other fields. This is the result of extensive work both for agencies and direct clients, in the UK, Italy, and France.
Other areas of specialisation include:
- Food and drink
- Business and Finance
I have also completed several translation and editing projects outside of these domains and am always happy to do so, so do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your project.
